Our History

Llanelly House – At the heart of Llanelli

At the heart of Llanelli stands one of Wales’ most remarkable heritage attractions. Built in 1714, Llanelly House is one of the finest surviving Georgian townhouses in the country, a place where centuries of history, culture, and community come together under one roof.

Much more than a historic landmark

Llanelly House is much more than a historic landmark. Today, it serves as a vibrant cultural hub, hosting a diverse programme of events throughout the year. From enjoying barista coffee in the bistro with friends, elegant weddings and private celebrations to fascinating historical re-enactments and immersive heritage experiences, there is always something happening within our historic walls.

Memorable experiences for everyone

We are also proud to welcome schools, home-educating families, and community groups, offering engaging educational workshops that bring history to life for visitors of all ages. Whether you are joining us for a special occasion, a learning experience, or simply to explore the House and its stories, Llanelly House offers memorable experiences for everyone.

BBC2 – Llanelly House Restored

The Llanelly House project began during the early 2000’s for the BBC2 Restoration series, in which the building was a finalist, championed by Laurence Llewelyn-Bowen. During the series, the house reached the final as the winner of the Welsh heat. Llanelly House was brought back to its former glory, officially opened by King Charles on 28th Feb 2014.

Thank you to our investors

The successful restoration of Llanelly House was made possible through the tremendous support of the public, Cadw, The Welsh Government, Llanelli Town Council, Carmarthenshire County Council, Carmarthenshire Heritage Regeneration Trust and Architectural Heritage Fund and from the National Lottery Heritage Fund.

Now managed by the Llanelly House Heritage Trust, this remarkable building stands as a testament to the town’s heritage, ensuring that the history, culture, and stories of Llanelli continue to inspire future generations in the heart of the town centre.
